We imagined a world in which every girl owns at least one dress ... and have a clean glass of water to drink. Girls could wear their new dresses to school where they can get an education rather than spending their day fetching unclean water from miles away. We have set out to dress girls around the world at their new well.
People in 24 states are holding Dress a Girl events. They gather with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, fellow students, and church and club members for a day or evening of sewing dresses out of pillowcases. They gather in living rooms, basements, back yards, dining rooms, schools, churches, and civic centers. They join together because they believe that every girl deserves the dignity of owning at least one dress.
The students at Bios Christian Academy invited their moms and grand moms to come to the lunchroom with their sewing machines, pillowcases and supplies and created 47 of the cutest dresses for the orphans in Haiti.
Forty women from Seaside Church in Huntington Beach converged upon the home of a church member and made 102 dresses in two hours!! They Skyped Rachel, founder of Dress a Girl, during the event so she could greet them and observe their creativity. Those dresses will be going to Uganda this summer. The group enjoyed it so much they decided to make more to send to Haiti.
Wendy Stokes opens her home to those who want to come together to sew. Teens and adults congregate to eat, laugh, sew and make prayer dolls.

Within three months six Hundred and forty-one dresses have been distributed to the Congo, Uganda, Honduras, and Haiti and within the United States. More organizations and ministries are asking to take them to Russia, Peru, Romania, the Baltic, and to the homeless girls of the United States.
Water 4 Kids International finds sponsors to drill wells for African villagers who do not have access to clean water. Girls cannot attend school because they spend hours walking to find water and when they do so it is so polluted that people are dying from dysentery. In remote villages where there is a lack of fresh water 75% of deaths occur from contaminated water.
Because we believe every child deserves access to safe water and the opportunity to drink without risking death by dysentery—and we believe every little girl deserves the dignity of owning at least one dress--Water 4 Kids and Dress a Girl have teamed up to give individuals, churches and organizations who are sponsoring wells the opportunity to ask those in their communities to make dresses to be distributed at their well dedications.
When we give out these dresses we don't see a mass of girls waiting in line. We kneel in front of them and make the moment special--we look into their eyes and tell them that Jesus loves them. We won't have the opportunity to do this with the girls in Haiti but we are praying for those who will be distributing them--that they will take a moment and let each girl know that God loves her.
