Since last July, Hope 4 Kids has launched a feeding program for the kids of the Karamojong tribe who have been left to fend for themselves in the streets of Tororo, Uganda. A number of months ago, the Karamojong children would rise early in the morning to dig through the trash for rotten potatoes and other produce thrown out by vendors. One day a 10 year old girl, named Maria was picking through the trash for food. She found a piece of meat in the mouth of a dead rat. Within hours she died a violent death. “We knew we had to do something and began helping Pastor Ruth to feed these children”, stated Hope 4 Kids rep Rachel Eggum Cinader. Partnering with Pastor Ruth from Smile Africa, Hope 4 Kids has responded to this need by launching a feeding program. Up to 420 children arrive daily to receive a meal. They are bathed, their clothes are washed and wounds are treated. There are teachers on hand teaching them reading, writing and arithmetic. Currently, it runs around twenty-five cents to feed a child. What if we told you we could feed a child for 7.5 cents? Could you refuse? Hope 4 Kids International has recently collaborated with Feed My Starving Children in an effort to bring steady nutritious meals to these children for a very low cost. FMSC provides individually packed highly nutritious and filling meals packed with rice, soy, vitamins and dehydrated vegetables all for free. The catch? The recipient must pay for the cost of the shipping. Shipping and duty fees on a 40ft. container carrying 270,864 meals runs around $20,000. Currently, FMSC gets around 71 million food requests and are able to fill around 51 million. “The nutrition is exceptionally vital; especially for these young children to grow up strong in order for their bodies to fight off diseases like malaria and measles”, says founder, Tom Eggum. “With soaring food costs, these kids need our help. After you see it first hand, you cannot turn your back on these children.” Hope 4 Kids International is currently working on a shipment of 270, 864 meals to Uganda but we need your financial contributions for the cost of shipping. Donations can be made directly on the homepage of our website at www.h4ki.org. 100% of your donation goes directly to shipping costs of the container of food. No administrative costs are taken out. Currently, Hope 4 Kids has been providing hope to kids around the world in ninety-five countries for over thirty-five years. |
