Join our medical outreach this summer in Guatemala!
"My favorite experience was every experience. I loved being able to help so many people and do it alongside so many great individuals." - medical student from SJFC after her mission trip to Guatemala
Last summer, we had an amazing time in Guatemala. It was an honor to serve with a team from St. John Fisher College, a medical school in Rochester, New York, who chose to provide their students with a global experience while sharing their special skills with our new friends in Guatemala. Our team rolled up their sleeves, dove right in, and helped at our first medical outreaches in the country. Additionally, several medical students took the time to teach kids about healthy habits, how germs spread, and the importance of washing hands. We were blessed to serve the people of Jaibalito, a remote Mayan village in need, San Miguel, Escuintla, and in Guatemala City.

While half the team helped at a medical outreach, the other half served meals at a feeding center. Serving food to hungry children is a very humbling experience. After the meal, it was our turn to be full of joy as we spent time learning to communicate with the children. Together we expressed our shared happiness through lots of hand gestures, smiles, drawings and kicking of soccer balls.

More good news, we are excited to announce we are in the process of starting a child sponsorship program in Guatemala this year. Stay tuned for future announcements!

How can you volunteer in 2018? We would love to serve alongside you on one of our international mission trips.
2018 Trip Dates
Teaching the Value of Clean Water
Water 4 Kids International finished 2017 by drilling 70 deep water wells throughout Uganda. We are grateful to everyone whose heart was touched last year and responded with generous financial gifts. We celebrated each and every life-giving borehole and the precious lives they impact.

Drilling boreholes is the easiest part of our calling. We focus on providing clean, safe water to communities, and we want to make sure our wells are open and fully functioning for decades to come! We formalized a Borehole Monitoring & Evaluation Program in nearly 500 communities throughout Uganda, India, the Philippines and Liberia. Within this program people are taught the value of drinking clean water, good hygiene and sanitation practices. If someone is traveling home with water from the new borehole in a dirty jerrycan, they are still coming home with dirty water! It doesn't matter how awesome a development program is, the effectiveness comes by the training and sensitization of the communities - that's when we see the number of diarrheal cases go down and the attendance of students go up! Now, that is something to celebrate! Onward to 2018 and more wells with your help!
Our new daycare center in the Philippines
We are excited to announce that construction began this January on the Hope 4 Kids Daycare Center in the Philippines. The groundbreaking ceremony was a joy-filled day that marked the beginning of an exciting way to help break the poverty cycle through education. This three-room daycare center will provide free preschool classes for up to 100 children (ages 3-5) from the poorest areas of Mindoro. Not only will the kids get a head start in school, their parents will have extra hours in the day to work to support the family. Construction is scheduled to be finished by the end of April and classes will begin in May.

The school will be a central location for H4KI mission team visits and medical outreaches. We hope you will join our team and visit these beautiful kids and this school in the tropics!

Urgent Needs: desks, chairs, playground equipment, school supplies.
Donate Today!
Through our Child Sponsorship program, the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of thousands of children are being met every day. A deep prayer lies in the heart of us all to be safe, to be loved, to be known and not forgotten. By sponsoring a child today, you will be showing God's healing love in tangible ways.

Many sponsored kids who have gone through our program are doctors, nurses, teachers, mechanics, beauticians, all bringing this same hope into their communities. Kids are never aged out of our program. After graduating from high school many students continue to higher education.

We are excited to see where sponsorship will take Dan. A vulnerable and helpless child, he was matched with a sponsor in December of 2016. Within a period of one year, the change he underwent is nearly indescribable. Once, living a destitute existence without hope, today Dan proudly wears his school uniform, attends classes regularly, receives much needed food, and looks forward to all that God has planned for him. Our sponsors are making a difference every day for these kids!

Each life is a priceless gift from God. You have the power to provide a pathway for dreams to come true to a child who has never had the courage to dream of a better tomorrow. All children deserve the opportunity for empowerment. The life of a young girl expands immensely by being afforded an education. Instead of being married with children at a tender young age, she sees a future in which she can be a strong and positive leader. Boys are just as important to be educated to help in leading their families and communities.
"We have sponsored eight orphans during the past several years. They have all been in college earning degrees. David is now an MD, Stella a business major, Rachael an RN now pursuing her nurse midwifery, Immaculate a preschool teacher...

"It has been such a blessing for us! I visited with a few of our sponsored kids on return trips to Uganda. We're in contact with a few of our orphans through this day. I consider them to be extended family. This sponsorship has enriched our lives tremendously! I would recommend sponsorship to anyone wishing to support a needy child and see them reach their full potential!" - Mary and Howie
A sponsored child's heart resonates with joy. Your child will feel safe, knowing they are loved, and that they have not been forgotten. You'll be communicating this truth as the following are implemented through sponsorship:
  • An education with school fees, supplies, uniforms, and shoes
  • At least one nutritious meal a day
  • Medical needs met immediately

Bob Mooney, H4KI Chairman of the Board
"As we discover our connection to God's story we want you to be challenged to love both God and other people in new and deeper ways." - Bob Mooney
Hi, my name is Bob Mooney and I am the Senior Pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church. At Messiah, we take your spiritual, emotional, and personal growth and development very seriously. I love telling stories. So, it is often through stories, with a bit of humor, warmth, and personal vulnerability that I try to integrate our stories with God's story. As we discover our connection to God's story we want you to be challenged to love both God and other people in new and deeper ways.

As a native of Southern California, I am familiar with many of the challenges that people face in this fast-paced Orange County culture. We believe Messiah is a welcoming community for people to share the struggles and joys that we all experience on this journey of life.

I have been associated with Hope 4 Kids International (H4KI) for 35 years. For the past 14 years, I have served on the Hope 4 Kids International Board of Directors, while serving as the Chairman of the Board since 2013. Through H4KI, over the past 15 years, my heart has been deeply moved by the people of Uganda and their living conditions. The realization that we are all interconnected to the lives of others in this world has become influential in how I do life and we do ministry here at Messiah. We are continuously looking for ways to deepen our connections with people and find new ways to reach out to those in our neighborhoods, communities, and halfway around the world. One of my favorite quotes and a driving force in how we serve is "I cannot do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good I can do." ― Jana Stanfield. Together we want to make a difference in the lives of others.

In 2015, after discovering that I had 95% blockage of my blood flow I had three stints put in my arteries. At that time I decided to live in a more intentionally grateful, graceful, and gracious manner. For many years my wife and I have been avid walkers. I decided to use this opportunity to use my walking to both improve my health and to give something back. In 2016 I walked 4,000 miles (about 11 miles a day, the distance many woman and children have to walk to get water in Uganda and many places around the world). Many of my friends and family joined my efforts by pledging financial support for my walks and I was able to raise $80,000 to be used for safe water wells in Uganda, Liberia, and the Philippines all through Hope 4 Kids International.

I grew up in Torrance, California and attended El Camino Community College, California Lutheran University, Wartburg Theological Seminary, and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Prior to joining Messiah in 1985, I worked in parishes in Englewood, Colorado, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

I love to travel and have visited over 23 countries, and 39 states, I love the outdoors and walks on Balboa Island and the trails of Irvine. In recent years I have taken up photography, but most of all I love spending time with my family. My wife, Jeannie, is an artist/illustrator and teaches art at Lutheran High School of Orange County. Jeannie also heads up the Ambassadors leadership program and oversees International Academic travel for the school. We have two grown children. Our son Ty lives in Brooklyn, New York and our daughter Tessa Joy lives in Manhattan, New York. Both are artists and they have their own marketing and branding businesses.
Leave a Legacy
We make it easy to be involved and help make the world a better place for us all!
Considering a Planned Gift?
Our Planned Giving Program allows donors to invest in the future of the community they love, and we are positioned to assist you. The information below offers options to consider establishing a long-lasting legacy gift.
Who can make a planned gift?
Anyone with a desire to give can make a planned gift. Generally, donors give assets like IRAs, securities, real estate, insurance benefits and cash. Many are surprised to learn how easy it is to create a lasting legacy that can preserve the family name, honor loved ones, a sponsored child, minimize tax burdens and/or support the community they call home. Bequests to Hope 4 Kids International are exempt from estate taxes.
What good work can I do with my planned gift?
You can enrich education for our youth through sponsorship, help provide clean safe water to villages, provide food, respond to urgent needs, or support village development. The options are limitless as long as the purpose is charitable in nature. Often donors find it most satisfying to provide a gift with flexibility. By making an unrestricted or field of interest gift, you ensure that your gift will provide the maximum benefit to the community. It will be used to respond to the prevalent needs of the community generation after generation. Your planned gift can be directed to any of the Hope 4 Kids International's existing funds.
When should I include the gift in my estate plan?
Anytime you are drafting or changing your will or estate plan, you may want to consider charitable legacy gifts. Your financial or legal advisor can provide professional guidance related to your specific estate, beneficiaries, income goals, taxes and other considerations.
How do I plan an estate gift?
Call your financial advisor, estate planner, or H4KI Development Director, Ruth Sanchez at 925.286.3660 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We provide confidential philanthropic services to prospective donors and their professional advisors, without pressure or obligation. Giving a planned gift is simple:

  • You include a bequest or planned gift to Hope 4 Kids International in your will and notify us.
  • Upon your death, we establish a fund in the name you have chosen or direct your gift to Hope 4 Kids International.
How do I notify Hope 4 Kids International of my planned gift?
The process is very simple. Once you have made provisions for naming Hope 4 Kids International as a beneficiary, please complete a Statement of Intent that clarifies your commitment and communicates your wishes. Some donors also work with us to prepare a memorandum of understanding. While it is not required, it does allow you to further clarify your intent for your planned gift. As an additional alternative, some donors decide to establish a fund during their lifetime. It allows them to begin seeing the impact of their giving and serves as the repository of their future planned gift.

Workplace Giving
Many companies not only encourage their employees to give to and volunteer time to nonprofits in their communities, but also will match those efforts with dollars and other means of support.

Companies across the country contribute an estimated $5 billion to U.S. charities each year. A matching gift programs often must be initiated by an employee.

Workplace giving programs can be set up in a variety of ways. Some of the more popular workplace giving programs offered by corporations are:

  • Employee Matching Gifts
  • Volunteer Support Programs
  • Donations through Payroll Deduction
  • Annual Giving Campaigns
Employee Matching Gifts
These are donations an employer makes to match its employees' charitable contributions. Usually associated with corporations, employee matching gifts often are dollar-for-dollar, but some companies will give double or even triple the original donation. Some may also give matching gifts for employees' volunteer efforts. For example, when an employee participates in a walkathon or other type of fundraising event, their employer may match the money they raise through sponsorships or other donations.

Guidelines and amounts vary with each company. Typically, individuals must submit forms to their employers. They usually can get more information about their matching gift benefits from their human resources department.
Volunteer Support Programs
Sometimes called "Dollars for Doers" - can take various forms. Also, known as individual volunteer grants, these programs essentially reward employees who take time to donate their time to a nonprofit. For instance, a company might offer a $250 stipend to a nonprofit for every 15 hours that an employee volunteers there.

Some companies will also help groups of employees organize for various nonprofit projects, for example, making calls to fundraise for a Capital Campaign or in helping with a construction project. A corporate donation to the nonprofit often accompanies these "team building" efforts.
Donations through Payroll Deductions
This can also be set up for employees who wish to effortlessly donate to a worthy cause. However, companies usually limit the type of nonprofit to which their employees can contribute.

According to the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP), employers are increasingly offering more choices in the charities their employees can elect to donate to and are moving away from the top-down approach of the company choosing a handful or even one charitable giving option.
Annual Giving Campaigns
These use payroll deduction to funnel donations to charities, but these take place at certain times of year.
Grants Transform Lives!
Thank you to Pat and Diane Sullivan for supporting the Halvorson Charities Fund grant which was approved and awarded to Hope 4 Kids International several weeks ago! The GIFT that keeps on GIVING!
Thank you to our partners, families, friends and supporters who supported by giving gifts of love, hope, joy and dignity from our Christmas Holiday Giving Guide! With the hustle and bustle during the holidays, it's always nice having that feeling of joy we get when giving to others. Wouldn't it be great if it lasted throughout the year?

When the holidays end, sometimes the joy dissipates as well. However, one thing that remains the same are the needs our kids face each day. We thought we'd merge that great feeling of giving with the needs the kids in our program have throughout the year. We'd like to give you the opportunity to look at our Hope 4 Kids Online Giving Guide and know that you can bless a child throughout the year. Be blessed as you are a blessing to many!
Online Giving Guide
Thank You For A Blessed 2017!
Your overwhelming show and support during the Christmas holidays and year-end giving brought hope and inspiration to the children and families we serve. It has been an amazing year and we have the Lord and you to thank for the many accomplishments that were realized in 2017.

In celebrating another blessed year, Child Sponsorship continues to help children achieve productive lives, with the result of happier and healthier communities. This year, 38 students graduated from higher education and we also celebrated 87 high school graduates who are continuing their education.

We are overjoyed to announce that we shipped over half a million meals to hungry children in Uganda and Guatemala. Additionally, through our medical outreaches, we helped nearly 2,500 people in desperate need of care.

Since the inception of our Water 4 Kids program, ten years ago, we have drilled over 512 Wells, restoring the gift of life to thousands of desperate people in need. Since conducting full immersion baptisms with water from new wells, over 120 new believers have publicly professed their faith in Jesus Christ.

Throughout 2017, we hosted 14 specialized mission trips to six countries. There was a total of 173 trip participants who had life-changing experiences. Many today are using their voice to speak on behalf of those who have no voice, advocating for the poor and marginalized.

Thank you for your prayers, advocacy, generosity and acts of love throughout 2017! Without your involvement, Hope 4 Kids International would not have been able to accomplish all that the Lord brought before us this past year. May 2018 be an enriching year for you and your loved ones!

Keep an eye on your mailboxes. Your H4KI 2017 year-end tax statement is in the mail!
Waterfall of Thanks & Appreciation
Thanks to all the amazing people who came together making all the 2017 Walk 4 Water events a huge success! Your big-hearted giving has brought hope through dignity, health, joy and love to children and families living in destitute communities. Once they drank from ponds of brown, murky water filled with deadly contaminants now they bring safe, clean water home to their families. Children and young girls can attend school as their time is freed and their minds are hungry for knowledge. We celebrated our 500th W4KI drilled well this summer. A true celebration of love done well!!

Over $205,000 was raised transforming the impoverished communities of 19 Ugandan remote villages. We couldn't have done it without you! We want to thank ALL OF YOU for your love and support. You have helped make all this possible through your steadfast commitment, prayers, and contributions measured by your valuable time and hard-earned money. With much appreciation and gratitude from Tom Eggum, Founder/President and the entire staff at Hope 4 Kids International THANK YOU!

R Dub!'s doing it again!
Last year, R Dub!, creator, producer, and host of Sunday Night Slow Jams, engaged his listeners to act and help drill a W4KI deep water well for a village whose people were drinking dirty water from a contaminated pond. Through their efforts, today, children and families in Nyakoi Akuoro have clean, safe water to drink. After traveling last year with Hope 4 Kids International, he personally met the graciously enthusiastic people of this remote Ugandan village.

It's a new year and a new challenge. With your help, he hopes to bring clean drinking water to Aminit Border Village of rural Uganda. Check out facebook.com/slowjams and find out how you can help bring the life-saving gift of clean, safe water to those in critical need.
