Tuesday,
June 14
We
leave the USA! Please be at the airport at least two hours before
your departing flight. Be sure to check your bags all the way through
to Budapest, Hungary. Please don’t forget your passports and flight
itineraries!
Wednesday,
June 15
Our
team arrives in Budapest, Hungary. Local airport vans will take us to
the Budapest Korona Hotel. After checking into the hotel, we’ll
walk the streets of beautiful Budapest and have dinner at the Fatal
restaurant. Afterwards, we’ll have our first team meeting (“family
time”).
Thursday,
June 16
We’ll
have breakfast at the hotel, followed by our morning team meeting and
cultural information meeting. A chartered bus will arrive at 11:00
a.m. to take us to Romania. We’ll arrive in Oradea and check into
the Motel Club Phoenix. We’ll have dinner in Oradea and get a good
night’s sleep for our mission work tomorrow.
Friday,
June 17
After
breakfast and family time, we’ll visit the village of Lazareni,
where we’ll do a VBS-type outreach and assist with different
projects. This is a Gypsy village where we have a great partnership
with Kids in Crisis. We have assisted in restoring a school and have
a number of sponsored kids in this village. Tonight we will have
dinner in Oradea, then head back to the Motel Club Phoenix.
Saturday,
June 18
Breakfast
at the hotel, followed by family time. Today, we’ll head to
Cheresig, a village that has a large Gypsy population. We’ve been
involved in this village for the last five years. We’ll meet our
sponsored kids and do arts and crafts with them, then have lunch with
the kids by the river. What fun! Some team members will also hold the
first of their dental clinics today. We’ll have dinner in Oradea
and spend the night at the Motel Club Phoenix.
Sunday,
June 19
After
breakfast and family time, we’ll be introduced to Romanian
enthusiasm as we worship at a local church in Oradea. This is a
vibrant church mostly attended by young people who were influenced by
our very own team leader, Tom! He spoke at leadership conferences
there for five years during the late 1990’s. Over the years, this
church has given very generous offerings for our Uganda, Africa
project. This afternoon, we’ll have lunch and spend some time at a
resort area called Baile Felix. This is a place for souvenir shopping
and enjoying beautiful gardens.
Monday,
June 20
You
guessed it! Breakfast followed by family time. Then we’ll head
back to Cheresig to continue serving in this lovely village. Tonight,
we’ll have dinner in Oradea and spend the night at our
home-away-from home, the Motel Club Phoenix.
Tuesday,
June 21
After
breakfast and family time, we’ll head to a small village to meet
one of our Romanian partners, Samuil Mitra. Sami runs two day
centers, caring for more than 120 kids. We’ll help lead a VBS-type
of program and start working on a construction project at the day
center. We’ll head back to Oradea in the evening for dinner and
some much-needed rest.
Wednesday,
June 22
We’ll
have breakfast and family time at the hotel, then head back to Sami’s
day center, where we’ll continue serving alongside him. We’ll
have dinner in Oradea and get a good night’s sleep back at the
Motel Club Phoenix.
Thursday,
June 23
After
breakfast and family time, we’ll drive back to Sami’s day center.
This will be our last day serving with Sami. We’ll say our final
goodbyes to the staff and kids at the center, then head back to
Oradea. Tonight, please pack a small overnight bag to take with you
to Cluj-Napoca, where we’ll be headed in the morning.
Friday,
June 24
It’s
breakfast and family time at the hotel! Today, we take a bus up to
Cluj-Napoca, which is a beautiful city in the heart of Transylvania.
We’ll meet with our UNIFUND students, whom we’ve known for years
through our program. These children grew up in an orphanage in
Beclean, Romania. Tonight, we’ll have dinner with any UNIFUND
students studying in Cluj, then head to our hotel.
Saturday,
June 25
After
breakfast and family time at the hotel, we’ll spend time visiting
with our UNIFUND students and have lunch with them. We’ll then
visit an orphanage in Beclean that we have seen transformed from one
of the most desperate in the 80’s to one that is becoming a model
for future orphanages in Romania. We’ll then drive to Oradea for
dinner and our last night at the Motel Club Phoenix.
Sunday,
June 26
After
breakfast and family time, we’ll drive to Budapest, where we’ll
spend a free day enjoying the sights and sounds of this incredible
city. Tom will lead an optional tour of the city- bring your walking
shoes! Another option is to visit the famous Gilbert Hot Springs
Hotel for an invigorating spa. Enjoy! We’ll stay at the Budapest
Korona Hotel tonight.
Sunday,
June 27
We’ll
have breakfast in the hotel before taking a shuttle to the Budapest
airport. This will be a long day for us. We’ll arrive home on the
same day! I truly believe that each one of you will have made an
impact on a number of lives in Romania. You will have become a dear
friend to some very special kids. Thank you for making your lives
available for kids in such need. May God bless you for giving of
yourself for this mission. Welcome home!
