In Tororo, Uganda, children of all grades struggle to meet the
national test requirements, with the majority dropping out of school
before making it to the secondary level. It is no secret that the
system is failing students, parents, teachers, administrators, and
Ugandans. Give Now
Why?• Classroom sizes are common at numbers around 100 to 150 students. Classes in the primary level creep up near 200 plus students per class. • Teachers and students rarely have access to textbooks or classroom tools. In fact, a secondary English teacher may attempt to instruct students in Shakespeare with only one book, which he or she reads aloud to 150 students. • One of the leading causes of dropout is lack of nutrition. At Tecaf Primary in Tororo, Uganda, only 40 of 1026 students paid to eat lunch. If the child does not pay, his or her stomach would remain empty. In most cases, only about 20% of these students came having eaten breakfast noted the principal. • Classroom sizes remain high do to a lack of funding for more teachers and building space. • Lack of clean water directly affects the health of thousands of children daily • Lack of government fundingChildren that have not met the basic needs of water, food or sleep, will not survive nor want to learn. The brain needs to be fed. Across America, schools have free & reduced breakfasts and lunches. Going with out in America is not ok, so why should it be ok in places such as Uganda? Like a billboard in Time Square, a small primary school in Western Uganda used the words “Education Saves Lives” to stress the desperate need for its students to receive an education. Hope 4 Kids International has faith in these profound words. In offering, the children of Uganda the tools needed in school to meet the academic demands of our global economy, H4KI has created Tools 4 Schools. In doing so, we allow you the opportunity to help Ugandan children discover a brighter, safer, healthier, smarter tomorrow. |
