Premise

Empowering widows to become self-sufficient through Dignity, Joy, Health & Love.

Widows 2 B Won is our new division of Hope 4 Kids International. We are empowering them to become self-sufficient with businesses of their own and to raise their dignity through tea parties, day spas and celebrating women.

We've begun in Uganda and hope to carry this to other parts of the world where women suffer from poverty, disease and low self-worth.

Currently, the widows of Uganda are in crisis. As their husbands die they are ostracized by his family as well as by society. Typically the family will cast the woman and children from their homes forcing them to the streets. Alone in their despair they are forced to beg, prostitute themselves or their children just to survive. Some commit suicide while others labor in the gardens to raise a bit of food for their families. 

Accomodations

Teams stay and dine in comfortable hotels during their travels, including a safari stay in Kenya and an English hotel in the city of Tororo, minutes away from the local sites in Uganda.

Trip costs are:
Application Fee: $200 (non-refundable)
Adults: $1790 + airfare
Students: $1590 + airfare
This includes your accommodations, three meals a day, transportation within the country & mission project costs.

Hope through Dignity

We bring widows together for an afternoon of tea and laughter. We fill basins with soapy water and ask the women to soak their feet and relax while sipping tea and munching on donuts. Then, we polish their fingernails and give them lipstick and new headscarves. We wash, apply lotion and place plastic bags over their feet. Then comes the joy!

Hope through Health

In Uganda we have a clinic and a hospital where our widows can receive the care they need. We also do outreaches in the bush where they can receive medicine, have their open sores tended to, and are assessed as to whether further treatment in our clinic/hospital is necessary.

Hope through Joy

We have furry foot massagers in which they insert their feet, as you would slip into comfy slippers. Pressing the power button and starting the vibration causes their expressions to change from shock to amusement. They refer to the foot massagers as motor cars.

 

We believe these women who are so concerned with just the basics in life that we all take so much for granted should be filled with laughter. For every 60 seconds they laugh- those are 60 seconds without pain. 

Hope through Love

As we share an afternoon of fun and distribute gifts of soap, rice, saucepans and clothing we share God's love.

We also repair or replace crumbling houses. We start women in businesses such as selling vegetables, scarves, purses; manicure and pedicure businesses; roadside food services; tailoring and jewelry making. We tell them because Christ first loved us and showed us His mercy we want to pass that love along to them. We want them to know that God has not forgotten them.
